Europe

...Change

The recession is going to cause continue changes in Europe’s largest businesses.
And government spending while remaining mostly intact in 2009/10 is likely to be reduced in 2011.

To my mind, all these organisations will be looking for new radical ways to do business differently - to survive "in the new world".

This is where we come in.

They’re not going to implement the change required without understanding that a larger number of people need to do differently – and they need to do this fast.

Of course all this has to be achieved without spending too much money.
Let’s face it, for most organisations ‘spending your way out of recession’ is not a long-term path.
So action needs to be taken at the lowest possible cost.

And the money that is spent must be spent very well. It needs to create a transformation in the organisation.
So it’s up to us trainers to prove that our methods are good.

Learning Innovation (e-Learning = Training Online = Technlological Knowledge Management Systems)

So how do we achieve this?

This is all about learning innovation. And that means many things – the way people learn, new techniques to suit new generations, ... mostly thet a recognition that the speed of business and increased globalisation mean that work and learning must mix better than they do now
…and that we must measure what we do, so that we know what works.

To achieve this we need to use technology – and we need to use it intelligently. For me that means two things:

1. there are no barriers between learning, communications and knowledge management (there is only one person at the end of the wire or wireless)
2. having a coherent learning and communications strategy that understands technology may be one of the tools.

This is not about ‘e’ vs. classroom, or technology vs. traditional, or rapid vs. custom, or internal vs. external – this is about setting sensible learning strategies that combine the optimal use of all methods.

Context

We need to be able to set this in the context of the issues that our clients face:
for example, training transformation in the military to respond to a very different type of enemy (intercultutral training);...
an automotive industry with too many cars and increasing demands to become greener;
industrial conglomerates needing to cut costs as demand slows;
charities with less money required to find new ways to extend...;
universities with inadequate fee income facing international competition...

But how can we prove that technology in learning can make the difference they so desperately need?

Proof

It is my contention we have proved speed (how else do you train 70,000 people in 3 months)
and we have proved cost (at less than £1 per head) but we’ve yet to really shout from the rooftops about how effective our methods can be....
